DAY 23 - TARRAWINGEE to BRIGHT

Not much happened on our ride today. We hurried a bit in order to give the mechanic in Bright enough time to fit the new wheel on to the bike, so there wasn't much time to stop and smell the roses (or take scenic photos) on the way. It was a very cold start to the day, but our hosts had a wonderful garden and we went out for an early morning walk to admire it.

The first frost of the year, according to our hosts
Our hosts' garden was very impressive
After breakfast, we packed our bags and were on our way.
Leaving our b&b
We rode on small country roads for a few kilometres until we joined up with the Murray to the Mountains rail trail, which we followed all the way into Bright. The riding was quite easy, with the surface tarred all the way and the gradients very gentle.

We rode the 40km into Myrtleford basically without stopping.
Except to photograph a few birds
And a few cows
And quite a few sheep
And there was a photo stop at Gapsted Wines, because we loved the autumn colours.

There may have been a couple of other impromptu stops along the way.
To talk to some cows at a car cemetery, for example
Or to photograph a bird in a river
But, basically, we rode directly to Myrtleford for our lunch stop. We were fortunate that by supporting a local establishment there we were also able to indulge our passion for healthy eating.

There were only 30 km on to Bright after lunch. As we will be doing the same route in reverse tomorrow, we were happy to plough on with only one comfort stop on the way.
A European Waste Facility?
We arrived in Bright shortly after 2, and the man in the bike shop was waiting for us with a new wheel.  He was able to fit it to the bike during the afternoon.

We are very grateful to Wayne from Mansfield, for seeing our bike through this far, and are now ready to resume our ride with more confidence tomorrow. As for the rest of this afternoon in Bright, we were still able to perform a couple of our traditional activities.
We took a photo of a bird
And supported a local small business
