DAY 6 - BALLARAT to LINTON

Before our ride today we treated ourselves to a coffee and croissant at Le Petit Pâtissier in Ballarat. As a bonus we were able to witness a master window washer at work.

We then packed our bags and cycled out of Ballarat, around Lake Wendouree, down the avenue of busts of former prime ministers, to the start of the Ballarat to Skipton rail trail.
We were happy to leave these characters behind us
We were looking forward to this trail and, apart from a tricky access to the starting point, it did not disappoint.

The trail was well surfaced, well signposted, and largely downhill from Ballarat. There was also a significant tailwind blowing, so the cycling was quite pleasant.

When we reached the village of Smythesdale we stopped to explore the sights, and to have lunch at the local pub.

After lunch we resumed the ride. The trail was still downhill, and the wind was still behind us. The scenery was interesting, and we stopped several times on the way to Linton.

We arrived mid-afternoon in Linton and were joined by our friends Simon and Judy. After a cup of tea in our b and b we went for a walk around the village.
Afternoon in Linton
A delicious dinner (thank you Judy and Simon) and a lounge in front of the fire have us nicely rested for a long ride tomorrow.

  1. What a fantastic day and ride. Amazing how sight seeing can be done without getting off the bike sometimes. Keep up the amazing effort.

    1. Yes, we're pretty good at maintaining balance while sight seeing, although not always...
