DAY 7 - LINTON to CAMPERDOWN

Today was quite a hard day's riding - 92km, much of it into a strong headwind. And the road that looked so flat on the map turned out to be gentle uphills and downhills all the way. Fortunately more downhills than uphill.

It was drizzling when we started, and quite cold, so we donned our wet weather gear and headed off on the final 20kms of the Ballarat to Skipton rail trail.

The rail trail was pleasant riding, without anything of extraordinary interest. We climbed for the first few kilometres, and then settled in to a steady rhythm.

Upon arrival at Skipton,  we turned left and headed for Lismore. The weather forecast was not promising, and we were keen to cover some distance before the wind picked up. We made it most of the way to Lismore with little wind. There was not a great deal to distract us from our ride, so we made it to Lismore in time for an early lunch.

We lunched at the Lismore Golf Club, surrounded by friendly locals. There is some impressive silo art nearby.

From Lismore it was 40km on a fairly straight road into a significant headwind into Camperdown and our accommodation for the night.
There wasn't a lot of interest between Lismore and Camperdown, but we did take these 2 photos
In Camperdown we checked in to our hotel and went out to do a bit of sightseeing.

We then treated ourselves to dinner at one of the local pubs before retiring to plan tomorrow's ride down to the coast.

    You two are absolutely amazing. Can't believe you have ridden into a parallel universe, first Clunes, then Lismore.

DAY 23 - TARRAWINGEE to BRIGHT

Not much happened on our ride today. We hurried a bit in order to give the mechanic in Bright enough time to fit the new wheel on to the bike, so there wasn't much time to stop and smell the roses (or take scenic photos) on the way. DAY 32 - RUTHERGLEN

This was our second day touring the Rutherglen wine country. We started riding in mid-morning in quite a heavy fog. We went first to The Wicked Virgin, intending to sample their olives and olive oil. When we arrived we found they were closed for crushing (despite their listing on Google indicating that they would be open). Although not exactly crushed ourselves, we were certainly disappointed, as we had identified this establishment as a potential highlight of the day.  Cyclists looking downcast at missing out on the Wicked Virgin We compensated for our disappointment with a wine tasting at the nearby Chambers Rosewood winery.  Cycling to Chambers in the fog Wine tasting at Chambers Suitably fortified, we rode in to Rutherglen to find a local business to support for lunch. DAY 36 - ECHUCA (Rest day)

Today we caught up with our friends Simon and Judy (see days 1,6 and 10) for a very enjoyable rest day, which involved a lot of bird-watching and  photography. We were picked up after breakfast and driven (in a car) to the Barmah National Park, near where we had ridden yesterday.  We had coffee at this establishment in Echuca on the way Just as we arrived at the national park, the Kingfisher was setting off on its morning cruise. We returned the waves of the passengers, and then set off on a walk through the forest.  The Kingfisher starting its cruise We immediately started seeing some interesting birds.  We saw this bird as soon as the Kingfisher had left While we expected it to flit rapidly away, the bird stayed for quite a while, so we took a few more photos of it before moving on.  The bird was in no hurry to move on So we took a few more photos of it The walk took us a couple of hours, as we stopped to examine all manner of interesting things on the way.
