Our third day on the Murray to the Mountains rail trail was another slow-riding day. We began with a circuit of the Mosaic Trail in Myrtleford before stocking up on lunch supplies at the Myrtleford Bakehouse.

We rode out of Myrtleford on the rail trail, visiting the town's iconic Big Tree on the way out.

We also took another photo of autumn leaves on the ground |
For the first 30km or so, we were retracing our route from last Friday, so we were familiar with the scenery.

When we reached Gapsted Wines we stopped again to admire the autumn foliage on the vines and the trees.

We followed the trail up to Everton, along with numerous other Sunday cyclists.

Ortlieb back roller panniers. The model with the pink shirt and teal panniers stops to smile for the camera, while the couple with the red and yellow panniers keeps on riding. |
After a brief refuelling stop at Everton station, we diverted from the main branch of the Murray to the Mountains trail, which continues on to Wangaratta. We turned right and headed on the line to Beechworth. This trail is still marked as a section of the Murray to the Mountains trail.

Rail Trail Junction, Everton |
The path to Everton is a well-surfaced, steady climb at a gentle gradient. There were several other cyclists enjoying the path while we were on it. They were mostly going the other way (ie downhill).

Picnic lunch on the way to Beechworth |
As it enters Beechworth, the trail is lined with deciduous trees, which at this time of year makes for a colourful spectacle.

Once established at our b&b, we walked into Beechworth to see about some dinner.
